Fieldwork in the sunshine! Recently, Year 8 students took their learning outdoors to explore the ecosystems on our brand-new school site. Armed with quadrats and transect lines, they investigated how plants and other organisms are distributed across different areas. From randomly placing quadrats to record species diversity, to stretching transect lines to observe changes in habitats, students worked like real ecologists, collecting data, spotting patterns, and asking brilliant questions along the way. Fantastic dedication from our Year 10 pupils! Approximately 30 of our hardworking Year 10 students gave up part of their half-term break to attend an extra revision session in preparation for their end-of-year exams. This level of commitment and motivation is truly commendable! With less than a year to go until they begin their GCSE exams for real, it's brilliant to see so many of them already developing strong study habits and taking ownership of their learning. These sessions not only build knowledge but also confidence, an essential ingredient for success. Supporting our pupils to feel safe and confident Earlier this term, our Key Stage 2 pupils took part in the NSPCC's 'Speak Out. Stay Safe' programme, helping them learn how to recognise worries, identify trusted adults, and understand the importance of speaking out. Following the assembly, pupils engaged in a range of activities designed to deepen their understanding of safeguarding, build awareness of trusted relationships, and reinforce the importance of speaking out if they feel worried or unsafe. This valuable experience helped to empower children with the knowledge and confidence to seek support when needed. Science in Action with Year 7! Our Year 7 pupils have been getting hands-on in their science lessons, exploring the fascinating world of acids and alkalis! Using red cabbage, they created their very own natural indicator, watching it change colour as they tested a range of different substances. From vibrant pinks in acidic solutions to greens and blues in alkalis, the transformations were truly eye-catching! Chemistry in action! Our Year 10 pupils have been getting stuck into the classic disappearing cross experiment this week, a firm favourite in the lab! Watching the 'X' vanish as the reaction progresses is a great way to explore rates of reaction and sharpen observational skills. Over the next couple of weeks, all of Year 10 will be taking part in this hands-on investigation, collecting data, spotting patterns, and developing their scientific thinking. David Attenborough 100th Birthday Card Competition We had so many wonderful submissions for our David Attenborough 100th birthday card competition – it was incredibly difficult to choose just one winner! Because of the amazing effort and creativity shown, we've selected a group of standout entries.
