SEND at Great Park Academy
At Great Park Academy, we strive to ensure that all pupils achieve their potential personally, socially, emotionally and academically in all areas of the curriculum (regardless of their gender, ethnicity, social background, religion, sexual identity, physical ability or educational needs). We endeavour to provide our pupils with the skills needed to successfully follow whichever path they choose, regardless of their special educational need. We provide our pupils with an education that allows them to be creative, compassionate, and inquisitive, as well as a curriculum that equips them with the skills to be adaptable, driven, and resilient.
A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability, which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.
A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or a disability if they have significantly greater learning difficulties than the majority of others of the same age or have a disability that prevents them from using facilities generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.
Special educational provision is educational or training provision that is additional to or different from that made generally for other children or young people of the same age by mainstream schools, maintained nursery schools, mainstream post-16 institutions or by relevant early years providers.
When a student is identified as having SEN or potential SEN, we work alongside parents/ carers and any relevant external agencies to ensure that any relevant assessments are carried out and any reasonable adjustments are made. From this, we implement individual classroom support plans and tailored interventions to ensure that every child reaches their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.

Although school complaint procedures are in place, we always hope to informally resolve any issues or concerns by working in partnership with parents.
Parents can contact their local Parent Partnership Service for impartial information, advice, and support regarding their child’s SEN and/or disability.
