Great Park Academy Permanent Site
Newsletter – July 2024
Welcome to our summer information update and newsletter.
We are delighted to share everything that has been going on with the construction of our new school building over the last term.
Once the foundations were completed, the pre-cast concrete staircases and lift shaft were installed, as well as metal decking on the upper floors and roof. Most of the floor slab-pouring has been finished, and it is now possible to walk around the inside of the building when we attend site progress meetings, which is really exciting! The steel framing system, which will provide the support for things like the brickwork, cladding and windows, is well underway. Outside the building, the MUGA (multi-use games area) is now almost finished, too.
Despite some less than favourable weather, we are pleased to report that the programme is on schedule.
Over the Summer holidays we will start to see the brickwork, cladding, roofing, and windows taking shape, as well as some of the first internal partitions.
Just before the end of the term, Galliford Try invited a group of students to the construction site for a steel signing ceremony. During the event, the students had the opportunity to see the building construction up close and sign their names on one of the steel beams, which will be erected in the sports hall. To attend, students had to collect the most PRAISE stamps across the school year, and names were drawn from a hat to select the lucky group. It was an excellent opportunity for the students to learn about the construction process and see how the different areas of the school fit together. You can view some pictures from our visit below.
The additional classrooms for our temporary site, including the Science and DT room, were installed as planned during the Easter holidays. Work to set them up internally will start at the end of term and from mid-August, we will be able to move everything into the classrooms ready for the new school year.
We hope you have a great summer break and look forward to sharing more about the progress of our new school building next term.
Yours sincerely,
Katherine Billingsley, Principal
