When will GPA open?

We are planning to open Great Park Academy for the first sixty Year 5 students in September 2021.  This is subject to the Gosforth Group’s funding agreement being finalised with the Department for Education.

Where will GPA be located?

Initially the school will be located in a brand-new stand-alone classroom block on the Gosforth Academy site with access to the Academy’s specialist facilities. Once the state-of-the-art school building close to the SAGE building on Newcastle Great Park is completed (subject to planning approval) pupils will transfer to the permanent site.

How do I apply officially for my child to join GPA?

You can find all the details about how to apply for a Year 5 place in September 2021, including a link to the online application form in the admissions section of this website.

What if my child does not get a place at GPA?

Where we receive more applications for places than there are places available, a waiting list will operate until the end of the Autumn term. This will be maintained by the Academy Trust and it will be open to any parent or carer to ask for their child’s name to be placed on the waiting list, following an unsuccessful application.

All applicants refused a place have a right of appeal to an independent appeal panel constituted and operated in accordance with the School Admission Appeals Code.

What is the PAN for GPA and will it increase in future years?

While GPA is located in temporary accommodation the PAN for Year 5 admissions to GPA will remain at 60.  It will increase to 120 for Year 5 when we move into our brand new school building on Newcastle Great Park. We will then plan to introduce a second entry point at Year 9 with a PAN of 240.

Who will be the Principal of GPA?

Excellent leadership in any school is of paramount importance, and clearly we want the best person for the job. Currently Mr Robinson (CEO of Gosforth Group) is Principal Designate of GPA. We will be recruiting a permanent Principal during the Spring Term 2021.
