PE Intent, Implementation and Impact

Intent

Physical Education at Great Park Academy provides our students with the opportunity to challenge themselves and develop into well-rounded individuals, outside of the classroom. We focus on developing students’ technical skills, cognitive understanding, and social skills across a diverse and broad range of challenging physical activities. A deep understanding of these concepts is what underpins student progress in our subject. Finally, we aim to create a learning environment in which all students feel valued, foster a love for PE and physical activity, and engage in physical activity outside of school.

Implementation

The implementation of our PE curriculum is based around achieving autonomy in sport. To do this, students learn, practice and demonstrate key skills and concepts which are relevant to their Key Stage. These concepts recall and build on prior knowledge and are interleaved logically across the curriculum to secure these in their long-term memory. Students that have mastered these concepts, are able to apply these successfully and autonomously in specific sporting contexts, which are later transferred and applied across other curriculum areas.

Impact

The impact on our students is clear; sustained progress is made so students can excel in sport and physical activity. Students can recall key skills and concepts to be successful in a broad range of activities which, when coupled with mastered motor skills, enables students to apply these successfully and autonomously. Students at Great Park Academy have a love for physical activity and sport, are resilient and confident learners, that aspire to lead healthy, activity lifestyles.
